Holy Nativity of the Lord Orthodox Mission gathered formally for the first time on December 25th, 2010.
In attendance at the first Divine Liturgy, among family and friends, were four families committed to the development of a new work of God in the Shreveport/Bossier City area of Louisiana. Soon, thereafter, the Mission began meeting every Sunday in the community room of a local credit union and in the home of Fr. Jason and Matushka Ashley Foster on Wednesday nights and Saturday evenings. The first two years were characterized by liturgical, spiritual and numerical growth and the desire to minister to the needs of our community. As others began to join Holy Nativity, the members, prayerfully, believed it was time to secure a piece of land for future development.
In April of 2013, 10.89 acres of prime real estate was purchased in a growing area of south Shreveport. Currently, the mission is considering various ‘Phase 1’ designs and the construction process. At present, our community room worship space is full as we are averaging approximately 75 at the Divine Liturgy on Sunday. God willing, we will be ‘breaking ground’ in the near future. Our prayer is that whatever space we sanctify time and space in will be used daily as we grow in our common prayer lives together.
Collectively, those that are involved in the Mission are very thankful for the Mission Grant. There is no doubt that this blessing bestowed upon us through the National Church has enabled our local gathering to be the heart, mind and hands of Christ in our city. Please keep Holy Nativity of the Lord Mission in your prayers as we seek to continually be faithful, along with our Greek and Antiochian Orthodox brethren, to the Great Commission in northwest Louisiana.
